What we do

We empower women through community and peer-led support. Please contact us if you are interested in joining or working with us.

Our weekly women’s group is open to all Black African women in and around Middlesbrough. We meet at venues in the town centre. Each week we cover an issue or activity based on what women want. We regularly invite external experts to share knowledge about issues affecting our community and settlement in the UK.

Issues and activities include:

  • Cooking classes and healthy affordable food budgeting
  • Parenting
  • Exercise and dance classes
  • Health awareness
  • How to build a business.

If you or someone you know would like to join our group, please contact us.

We are seeking funding to run regular peer-groups for Black British / Black African girls in Middlesbrough to come together in a safe, fun environment to build confidence and positivity for their futures. For more details, contact us.

We support Black African women to build fulfilling lives in the UK. We provide advice and support to help women navigate new lives and address the challenges and harms they may face. This includes working closely with expert organisations around domestic abuse, housing, and mental health support.

Our support is available over the phone, or in person in the community and at our office. If you or someone you know needs our help, please contact us.

Want to understand more about the key issues affecting our community? Want to particpate in conversations between Black African women about life in the UK?

Our long-running Table Talk series of videos provides insight, discussion, and real life stories from Black African women. We talk within the community and with experts about the wide-range of issues shaping our lives in the UK. Recent discussions include:

  • Fitness
  • Young women on being born British and raised by Black parents
  • Overcoming trauma.

Our Table Talks can be viewed on our Instagram and YouTube channel.

For women and girls in poverty we supply essential items (dependent on donations) at our office and events including:

  • Period products
  • Essential toiletries
  • Essential clothing for babies and toddlers
  • Food packages.

If you are in need please contact us.

If you are able to donate practical items for women and girls in need, please contact us.

We help public and charity sector organisations understand and engage with our communities. Recently we have presented to over 100 police officers at Cleveland Police.

Women Today provides volunteering opportunities for Black African women and girls to grow their skills and confidence.
